Our Story

The Nicastro Family in Ottawa

It all started in 1972 when the Nicastro brothers opened their first store on Gladstone Avenue in little Italy. This store at first catered to Italian immigrant families in the area, but soon grew in popularity and became Ottawa's favourite Italian grocer and supplier of quality Italian foods.

Five Generations of Fine Food

The Nicastro brothers eventually opened their next store on Merivale Road, to capture the growing Italian population in that area. Joe, Rocco and Frank Nicastro can still be found at Nicastro's on Merivale Road in Ottawa. Rocco Sr. (Below) still actively keeps an eye on the younger generation.

Introducing La Bottega - 1995

Having realized a need for an Italian store in the downtown Ottawa area Pat Nicastro (Joe's son) opened La Bottega Nicastro in the Byward Market. La Bottega (Italian for the shop or boutique) opened in May 1995.

A Day at La Bottega

La Bottega has become a local favourite. The store caters to gourmets and Italian nonnas from all over the city of Ottawa and beyond. Chefs from the city's finest restaurants and hotels can always be found shopping at La Bottega.

Our mission is to offer the very best in service, quality and of course, selection to the people of Ottawa. Gourmet treats for cooking, eating and entertaining.
